Abstract

Objective: To determine, analyze and compare incidence, etiology, management, per operative and post operative complications and maternal and fetal outcome in 2005 and 2015 at our institute. Methods: Retrospective cohort study carried out in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, KGMU, Lucknow. All cases of rupture uterus and scar dehiscence studied from records in year 2005 and 2015 to see the changing trends. Statistical analysis done using SPSS Version 15.0 statistical analysis software. P value <0.05 considered significant. Results: In year 2005 incidence of rupture uterus and scar dehiscence was 1.45% and in 2015 was 1.66%. In year 2005 rupture in scarred uterus was 32.60% and in unscarred 67.40% whereas in 2015 rupture uterus in scarred uterus was seen in 70.63% and 29.37% in unscarred uterus, the difference was found to be statistically significant (p<0.001). There were 26 (56.5%) peripartum hysterectomies in 2005 and 36 (25.2) in 2015, the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality has decreased from 2005 to 2015 but alarming increase of rupture in scarred uterus is seen in accordance with increase cesarean section rate.
